JKR to improve road curves next to Taman Bumiko junction for safety by October

MIRI: Public Works Department (JKR) expects to carry out road safety improvement works on two road curve areas along the Bintulu-Miri road next to Taman Bumiko junction by October this year.

Transport Minister Datuk Lee Kim Shin said the major scope of works for the project would be to widen and level the stretch as well as installing speed bump to slow down vehicles.

“Road accidents frequently occurred in this downhill area due to the sharp road curves.

“Thus, it is important to improve the road for safety as well as installing the speed bump,” he told the media during a visit to check on that stretch of road.

The Senadin assemblyman said the road improvement works is part of his ministry’s focus to improve road safety under urban traffic management.

“This is part of our traffic management to improve road safety for urban areas. For Miri, several accident-prone areas have been identified and we would give priority to improve these black spot areas in the city.

“JKR will do the improvement works for those areas under the department’s jurisdiction while MCC (Miri City Council) would have to rectify those places under them.”

He said that the next traffic improvement focus for the city is to install more traffic lights at the Riam areas.

Also present was JKR Miri divisional engineer Chong Chi Fam.
